Four people face charges in connection with the 2023 fatal shooting of a Mississauga man.
Bryan Lara-Alvarez, 29, was killed in a what police had called a targeted shooting near Dream Crest Road and Alicante Street on March 20, 2023.
He was reportedly sitting alone in his parked car on a neighbourhood street just steps away from his family’s home. A grey, four-door, newer-model SUV was seen fleeing the area following the incident, Peel Regional Police said.
Following an extensive investigation and the execution of search warrants, police have charged four people in connection with the shooting.
“These arrests mark a resolution in a case that deeply impacted our community,” said Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah. “We recognize the lasting effects that violence has on families, neighbours, and the broader public. Peel Regional Police remains steadfast in our commitment to public safety, and we will continue working diligently to ensure those responsible for violent acts are brought before the courts.”
Lara-Alvarez was remembered as a kind man who was full of joy. A fundraiser to support his two children exceeded its goal.
Three Toronto residents and a man from Wasaga Beach face charges.
Shamba Tull, a 22-year-old man from Toronto, and Shammar Osbourne, a 22-year-old man from Wasaga Beach, are charged with first-degree murder.
Talena Farquharson-Miller, a 23-year-old woman from Toronto, and Ahmed Hassan, a 23-year-old man from Toronto, are charged with possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon, device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized.
