Multi-alarm fire breaks out at townhouse complex in Hamilton

A multi-alarm fire broke out at a townhouse complex in Hamilton early Monday morning.

Crews battled the blaze at 23 Echovalley Dr., Hamilton Fire said on X. The complex is near Mud Street West and Paramount Drive in Stoney Creek.

On its incidents dashboard, the Hamilton Fire Department said 17 trucks or units were dispatched at 4:25 a.m.

Residents were able to escape without injury, but one firefighter was taken to hospital as a precaution, the CBC reported. Seven to 10 people were forced out of their homes.

Five units were severely damaged in the fire, and a sixth had heavy damage to the roof area, Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe told CHCH News.

Fire crews were expected to be on scene all day. Mud Street, from First Road to Paramount Drive, is closed.
