Much-loved Oakville restaurant closes after 20 years

A foundational restaurant in the GTA is closing after over two decades.

Celadon House, a beloved Oakville classic specializing in hot and savoury Asian-style comfort food, has announced that it will be closing its doors in the area after 20 years in the business.

The official announcement came over the weekend, when the owners made a post on the restaurant’s official Instagram page on Friday (Dec. 12).

“While this farewell is bittersweet, as much as we want to continue, our bodies are broken, and it is time to slow down and embark on a different adventure,” read the post, with the couple behind the location citing retirement as a key reason for the decision.

The pair then continued to highlight Celadon House’s 23-year run in the Oakville area and how it has become a fixture in the community.

“Thanks to you, we hit the ground running. Your support over the last two decades has kept us grounded and humbled, touching our lives more than you’ll ever know.”

The team behind Celadon House closed out the post praising Oakville, especially the area in which the restaurant was situated.

“To have lived and worked in such a wonderful neighbourhood, and to have raised our children surrounded by the kindest people in the world, has made our life in Canada the most amazing immigrant experience.”

To ensure that they go out serving the community they came to cherish, Celadon House will remain open this month on Dec. 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, Dec. 23, Dec. 24, Dec 30, and will have their final day on New Year’s Eve.

Ownership only requests that any orders on Dec. 31 get called in well in advance, so that they’ll have enough food to go around Oakville one last time.
