Oakville film lovers will be able to check out a Canadian award winning movie starring a local native right in their own backyard beginning this week.

Starting Friday, the 2019 Canadian Screen Award winning drama Brotherhood is being screened at Film.ca Cinemas, located at 171 Speers Road, for one week.

The movie features Oakville actor Jake Manley, who plays George Waller, the son of an abusive father.

Written and directed by Richard Bell, the film is set in the 1920s and recounts the true story of a group of youths at summer camp on Balsam Lake in the Kawartha Lakes.

An unforeseen thunderstorm hits when the group is on a canoe trip and leaves them fighting for their survival. Only four survive after a harrowing night on the lake.

Bell will attend showings in Oakville on Aug. 19.
