Savannah Kulla, a mother of four from Brampton, has been identified as the woman shot and killed before her one-year-old baby girl was abducted from a parking lot on Tuesday.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the parking lot of a plaza near the area of Airport Road and Queen Street East, where one adult female victim was shot and treated on the scene by Peel Regional Paramedics Services.
She was later pronounced dead on the scene, and hours later, an Amber Alert was issued for one-year-old Skyla-Rose Deschepper, believed to be kidnapped by the girl’s father, Anthony Deschepper.
Investigators called the murder a case of “intimate partner violence.”
Police said Skyla-Rose was found safe on Tuesday evening after being dropped off at a relative’s home in the Niagara area. Anthony was shot dead by police on Wednesday morning.
Now, reports have identified Savannah Kulla, 29, of Brampton, as the mother of Skyla-Rose and the victim in Tuesday’s shooting. She was a mother of three boys and a one-year-old girl.
The 29-year-old from Brampton often posted on her social media accounts about motherhood and raising her children.
“Words can’t explain how complete I feel. My baby girl, my princess. You are so loved already,” she wrote in a post on May 24, 2024. “Thank you for choosing me to be your mama. I can’t wait to live this life with you and your siblings.”
Anthony was previously charged in a 2023 shooting in Brampton and spent weeks on the run from police. He was eventually arrested in Waterloo. No injuries were reported in that shooting.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the shooting happened on Monday, not Tuesday.
