Risk of fire, crashes and more as vehicles recalled in Mississauga, Brampton and beyond

For a second week, Transport Canada has issued numerous vehicle recalls due to potential safety issues that could pose a risk to drivers or passengers.

Check the recall numbers below for more detail on which vehicles and models have been recalled.

The following recalls have been issued this week (Oct. 10 to 16):


Daimler Truck North America

Risk: On certain trucks, a bolt for the lower joint on the steering shaft may not have been installed correctly. As a result, the joint could disconnect and cause a loss of steering, causing a crash.

What you should do: Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a DTNA authorized service facility to inspect the lower joint on the steering shaft, and if necessary, re-install the pinch bolt.

Polaris

Risk: On certain side-by-side UTVs, the oil supply line to the turbocharger may not be properly sealed. As a result, oil could leak onto the turbocharger or the exhaust system, causing a fire.

What you should do: Polaris will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your UTV to a dealer to inspect the oil supply line sealing surface on the turbocharger. The turbocharger assembly will be replaced, if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, Polaris recommends that you should not drive your UTV until this recall is completed.

Tiffin

Risk: On one motorhome, a problem in the engine control module (ECM) could cause a short circuit. If this happens, the engine could stall and you may not be able to restart it, causing a crash.

What you should do: The affected motorhome has not been sold to a retail owner. Tiffin will instruct the dealer to take the motorhome to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the engine control module before the vehicle is sold.

Volkswagen

Risk: On certain vehicles, the vent pipe inside the fuel tank may be damaged. As a result, gasoline could spill out of the filler neck when you remove the fuel cap, causing injury or a fire.

What you should do: Audi will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the fuel tank vent pipe. If fuel spills out of the filler neck when the tank is pressurized, the dealer will replace the fuel tank and charcoal canister.

Rev Recreation Group

Risk: On certain motorhomes, the hoses for the hydraulic leveling jack system may not be routed, secured, or protected correctly. As a result, the hoses could be damaged by heat and/or contact with the frame. If this happens, hydraulic fluid could leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

What you should do: REV Group will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorhome to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the hoses for the hydraulic leveling jack system.

BMW

Risk: On certain scooters, the horn mounting screw could loosen and the horn could detach from the frame. If this happens, the horn could interfere with steering and cause a loss of steering control and a crash.

What you should do: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your scooter to a dealership to replace the horn mounting screw.

Ford

Risk: On certain F-150 Raptor models equipped with 37-inch tires, the wheel lug nuts may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the lug nuts could loosen or fall off. If this happens, a wheel could separate from the vehicle and hit somebody or another vehicle.

What you should do: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the wheel lug nuts. They will be tightened or replaced, as necessary.

Mercedes-Benz

Risk: On certain vehicles, the roof frame panel above the windshield may not be attached properly. Over time, the panel could become loose and separate from the vehicle, creating a road hazard.

What you should do: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to owners. Mercedes-Benz will instruct dealers to add adhesive to the roof frame panel above the windshield before each vehicle is delivered.

Fanotech Manufacturing Corp.

Risk: The compliance label on certain trailers lists the wrong gross axle weight ratings (GAWR). The label incorrectly lists the capacities as 11,350 kg (25,000 lb.) per axle. The label should instead list the axle capacities as 10,900 kg (24,000 lb.) per axle. This could lead to overloading and cause poor handling or a tire failure, resulting in a crash.

What you should do: Fanotech will mail a new compliance label to each owner. If you would like help to install it, you can contact Fanotech to arrange to have it installed free of charge.

Forest River

Risk: On certain travel trailers, the fresh-water tank may not be secured properly. As a result, the tank could fall from the frame and detach from the trailer, creating a road hazard.

What you should do: Forest River will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your trailer to a dealership to properly secure the fresh-water tank.

Recall numbers: 2022556 / 2022526


KTM

Risk: On certain motorcycles, the capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) box may have been programmed incorrectly. This could cause a sudden engine failure with an inability to restart, causing a crash or injury.

What you should do: GASGAS will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the CDI box. To reduce the safety risk, GASGAS recommends that you should not use your motorcycle until the recall repairs have been completed.

Oshkosh Corporation

Risk: On a small number of fire trucks, the steering gear may not have been assembled correctly. As a result, the steering gear could break and cause a loss of steering, resulting in a crash.

What you should do: Pierce will notify the owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect the serial number on the steering gear, and replace it if necessary.

Recall numbers: 2022552


Jayco

Risk: On certain travel trailers, the interior cooktop burner could be affected by the operation of the furnace. This could potentially cause the burner flame to invert, causing a burn injury or a fire.

What you should do: Jayco will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your trailer to a dealer to seal any gaps that could allow return air from the furnace to cause an inverted flame on the cooktop. To minimize the safety risk, Jayco recommends that the furnace and interior cooktop should not be used at the same time before the recall repairs have been completed.
