There are active outbreaks of COVID-19 at more than a dozen long-term care and retirement homes in Mississauga and Brampton, some dating back as far as July.

The most recent outbreak was declared on Monday (Oct. 10) at the Camilla Care Community in Mississauga.

Of the current outbreaks, Extendicare Brampton had the most cases with 47 residents and 10 infected. Thirty-three residents have since recovered, as have the 10 staff members.

Mississauga’s Village of Erin Meadows Retirement Home and Brampton’s Woodhall Park Care Community have both had active outbreaks since July, according to PPH.

PPH says 486 residents have died of COVID-19 in Peel long-term care and retirement homes.

In total there have been 3,622 resident COVID-19 cases recorded by PPH, with 3,131 cases recovered. Another 3,478 staff cases have also been tallied with 3,472 recovered and six staff deaths.
