It's not quite spring in Hamilton until the Gage Park bulb show. This year's event will feature vendors, games, and more than 45,000 plants.

Every major event needs a pre-game show to help get the juices flowing. For those who have grown tired of winter, the official start of spring is that major event and the Spring Tide Bulb Show is the perfect appetizer.

Starting Friday, more than 45,000 plants will be displayed at the Gage Park Greenhouse in Hamilton for the “Spring at the Cottage” theme, including tulips, pansies, snapdragons, and daffodils. Individuals and families will also be able to take part in a scavenger hunt.

Cafe and flower vendors are expected at the event, which runs until Mar. 19.

The first Spring Tide Bulb Show was held in 2007. This year, the City of Hamilton’s horticulture staff estimates more than 12,000 total visitors will attend.

The show will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The entrance to the park and greenhouse is accessible from Lawrence Road.

Admission and parking are free; however, food and monetary donations to Hamilton Food Share are encouraged. The last full-scale Gage Park bulb show was held in 2019, where more than 60,000 pounds of non-perishable food was collected.
