Mississauga school declares outbreak as more than 150 new COVID-19 cases in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon on Wednesday

The province is expected to give an update on third dose COVID-19 vaccines as 151 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon on Wednesday.

Of those new cases, 79 new were reported in Mississauga, 64 in Brampton, and another eight cases in Caledon and area.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to make an announcement about third dose COVID-19 vaccines around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and the federal government has advised Canadians to avoid all non-essential international travel.

There is currently no word on whether the winter break will be extended for students in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

Anyone over the age of 50 can book their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The province has said third does shots will be available for anyone over 18 starting Jan. 4.

Appointments can be booked online through the PPH vaccine portal.

The province reported a total of 1,808 new COVID-19 cases across Ontario and nine deaths on Wednesday.

The province now requires anyone visiting a long-term care home in Ontario to be fully vaccinated.

Ontario’s Science Advisory Table said on Monday that the number of Omicron variant cases in the province is doubling every three days.

The Region is inching closer to its goal of vaccinating 90 per cent of eligible residents against COVID-19.

PPH has declared a new outbreak of COVID-19 at the Cirecle of Children Academy school in Mississauga, bringing the confirmed number of outbreaks at Peel schools to 15.

As of Wednesday, 90.1 per cent of Peel residents over 12 years old have had at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 86.6 per cent have received two doses.

Nearly 86 per cent of people over 5 years old have received at least one vaccine shot, and 81 per cent have received two doses.
