More QEW lanes in Mississauga to be shut down due to construction

QEW lane closures in Mississauga are ramping up as the spring/summer construction season has arrived.

Specifically, work on the rehabilitation of the highway bridge over the Credit River has and will continue to result in temporary lane closures throughout the summer and into the fall.

The latest overnight lane closures to be identified will take effect starting next Monday (May 16) as crews continue work on a concrete median barrier wall dividing eastbound and westbound QEW lanes.

Officials with the QEW/Credit River Improvement Project say two lanes of the westbound QEW in west Mississauga will be closed to overnight traffic for a total of seven nights starting May 16 and concluding May 27.

The lane closures, from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd., will not be in effect from May 20-24 to accommodate Victoria Day long weekend traffic.

Additionally, there will be one lane closure of the Mississauga Rd. westbound off-ramp from the QEW during the same time period, with the same long weekend exception, officials say.

Between Hurontario St. and Mississauga Rd., westbound lane one will be closed to traffic from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the dates identified while the second westbound QEW lane will be shut down from midnight to 5 a.m. the same nights.

The ramp lane closure will be in effect from midnight to 5 a.m. each night.

Lane closures will allow for the final installation and shifting of the concrete barriers, officials say.

Project officials say they anticipate only minor traffic disruptions and minor noise impacts (drilling and hammering of steel rods into asphalt). They add that work will be dependent on the weather and that lane closures may not be in place on all days.

Meanwhile, QEW westbound lane closures from west of Hurontario St. to just east of Erin Mills Pkwy. are in effect the remainder of this week, through Friday (May 13).

The overnight closures are in effect during the same time periods.

Drivers and area residents can expect ongoing traffic disruptions to impact part of the QEW and other areas in the vicinity of Mississauga Rd. and the highway in the coming weeks and months.

Night and weekend work along the 2.6-km stretch of the QEW from Hurontario St. to Mississauga Rd. is expected to impact traffic for the duration of construction.

After years of planning, work on the new bridge continues to move forward.
