Lottery players in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and across Ontario will have more chances to win when the “new, bigger” Lotto 6/49 debuts next week with more multi-million-dollar jackpots in every draw.

The new Lotto 6/49 will offer players a shot at two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday starting with the Sept. 14 draw, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said this week.

The price per play will remain at $3.00 for the main draw, where players select their numbers or play quick pick. The game is being renamed the “Classic Draw,” and will offer a fixed $5-million jackpot with additional prizes for matching at least two numbers on one selection.

The previous $1 million Guaranteed Prize Draw will become the new “Gold Ball Draw,” and guarantees the winner will take home either a $1 million prize or a growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can climb to more than $60 million.

Duncan Hannay, OLG’s president and CEO, said in a release that the new draws will help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the LOTTO 6/49 and bring more excitement to players.

“This exciting product innovation has been a great collaboration with OLG’s provincial lottery partners across Canada, ensuring that our national lottery games always bring customers the fun they want, with the big jackpots to match,” Hannay said.

OLG says there will be a special draw on Saturday before the game changes take effect next week. Saturday’s draw will be the last draw of the current LOTTO 6/49, and OLG says there will be a clear-out of all jackpot prizes on that draw to give players a fresh start to the new games.

The draw on Sept. 14 will have a $5-million jackpot for the Classic Draw and a $10-million jackpot for the Gold Ball Draw.
