The Toronto Caribbean Carnival, now in its 59th year, is one of the largest cultural festivals in North America and attracts millions of participants and spectators from around the world, festival organizers say.
This year’s carnival runs from July 30 through Aug. 3.
Transit officials said the extra trains will help “connect communities to the Toronto Caribbean Carnival once again.”
GO train service also impacted weekend of Aug. 8-9
Meanwhile, GO train service will be reduced along the entire Lakeshore West line — from Union Station in Toronto to Niagara Falls and all stops in between — the weekend of Aug. 8-9, transit officials said.
Metrolinx said planned construction along the busy line means GO trains will run every 30 minutes on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 instead of every 15 minutes (the usual weekend schedule for many Lakeshore West stations).
The service adjustment impacts riders in west Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
Other service changes that weekend include:
- Saturday, Aug. 8 — The 10:10 p.m. train departing Niagara Falls GO will not stop at Exhibition GO, while the 7:22 p.m. train departing Union Station will depart 12 minutes earlier, at 7:10 p.m.
- Sunday, Aug. 9 — The 12:16 a.m. train departing Exhibition GO will depart 20 minutes later, at 12:36 a.m., while the 7:22 p.m. train departing Union Station will depart 12 minutes earlier, at 7:10 p.m.
Regular GO train service resumes on Monday, Aug. 10.
Following that weekend, the next GO train service changes on the Lakeshore West line due to planned construction are scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 17-18, according to the latest Metrolinx update.
