More construction disruptions coming to a Brampton GO station

Commuters using the Brampton Innovation District GO Station will face more construction-related disruptions this weekend, including temporary parking restrictions, station access changes and overnight elevator closures.

Metrolinx says ongoing work at the downtown Brampton station is continuing through August as crews complete upgrades and repairs.

From Saturday, July 25 to Sunday, July 26, crews will install a new fence near the station entrance, temporarily affecting four parking spaces near the entrance to the P2 lot.

Construction activity and work vehicles may create additional noise in the area, but station access will remain available, according to Metrolinx.

Passengers should also be aware that the elevators connecting to the train platforms will be unavailable every day between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

During those hours, customers travelling between the north and south sides of the station are asked to use the Church Street and Main Street crossing.

Anyone requiring accessible, barrier-free access to the train platforms after station hours can contact GO Transit at 1-877-297-0624 for assistance.

The latest work comes after Metrolinx announced earlier this month that a portion of the station’s main parking lot and one lane of the passenger pick-up and drop-off area would be temporarily closed.

About 240 parking spaces remain unavailable while crews complete concrete repairs, repaving work and install a new garbage enclosure.

Customers are being asked to use other available parking areas at the station. Those unable to find parking are encouraged to use Bramalea GO Station, which is about a 20-minute drive away.

Accessible parking spaces remain available in the main lot.

Transit riders are also continuing to deal with changes at the nearby Brampton Transit Terminal.

The terminal’s north bus loop remains closed because of construction on an underground parking facility, forcing several GO bus routes to temporary stops along Main Street North.

For GO bus routes 31 and 33:

• Eastbound buses are stopping on the west side of Main Street North, about 85 metres north of the terminal.

• Westbound buses are stopping on the east side of Main Street North near Church Street East.

For GO bus route 37:

• Northbound buses are stopping on the east side of Main Street North just north of the terminal.

• Southbound trips are ending on the west side of Main Street North near the terminal.

Metrolinx says the construction is part of ongoing improvements at Brampton Innovation District GO, including station rehabilitation work designed to improve the customer experience and support future GO service improvements.

The agency expects the current construction impacts to continue until August.

Customers are being advised to follow posted signs, listen to staff directions and allow extra time when travelling through the station.
