Additional Air Canada flight delays are possible today (June 2) at Pearson Airport in Mississauga and elsewhere as the country’s flagship carrier deals with “rollover effects” from Thursday’s system-wide technical issues.

In an online statement early Friday morning, Air Canada officials said that while the airline’s IT system is now stable, “…rollover effects from yesterday may result in delays today. Our flexible travel policy remains in effect and customers are advised to check the status of their flight before going to the airport.”

On Thursday, for the second time in a week, internal technical issues led to scores of delayed Air Canada flights at Pearson and other airports across the country.

In a statement on Thursday, Air Canada officials acknowledged the widespread technical issue across its network, saying the IT failure was causing numerous flight delays.

More specifically, the issue affected the carrier’s ability to communicate with aircraft.

Canada’s flagship carrier operates more flights into and out of Pearson Airport than any other Canadian airport.

According to FlightAware.com, some 130 flights (25 per cent of those scheduled on Thursday) were delayed as of early Thursday. That number grew significantly throughout the rest of the day and into early Friday.

On May 25, technical problems led to widespread Air Canada flight delays and cancellations as well.
