Montreal teen arrested in Ajax after police chase stolen car

A 17-year-old is in police custody after a chase through Ajax in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A victim called police around 3:30 a.m. March 24 to report a stolen Dodge Durango from the area near Westney Road South and Bramwell Drive.

Officers spotted the Durango driving west on Highway 401, but the car refused to stop when they pulled up. The Durango exited the highway at Liverpool Road, lost control and crashed into the ditch.

A suspect ran from the Durango, but was arrested a short while later in a nearby backyard.

A 17-year-old from Montreal is charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from police and failure to stop at a red light. He will remain in custody until a bail hearing. The teen’s identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
