A Montreal man who tried to make a U-turn on Hwy 401 to escape a police pursuit early Friday morning is facing several charges, including flight from police and possession of a stolen car.
Alimohamed Husein, 39, was spotted eastbound on the highway near Holt Road in Clarington around 4:40 a.m. and refused to stop for police, instead taking off with his Dodge Ram truck at a “high rate of speed” before attempting the U-turn and crashing into the centre median.
The man then fled on foot but was caught after a short chase and surrendered without incident.
Husein has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of said vehicle as well as flight from police and possession of the stolen truck.
He was held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact Det. Gordon of the East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1615.
