A test drive turned into a nightmare for a Brampton car dealership employee after a man said he had a gun, forced the employee out of the vehicle and took the car for an unsanctioned drive.
Peel Police said the incident happened March 7 at a luxury dealership near Dixie and Mayfield roads. The plaza, located at the south-west corner, contains about a dozen different automotive showrooms, including Mercedes, Audi, Jaguar and Tesla dealerships.
Peel Police said a joint investigation with Toronto tracked the suspect to a Toronto address and a Montreal man was later arrested.
The vehicle was found at the address, as well as another vehicle reported stolen in February.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime and uttering a forged document.
The arrest was made as crime statistics show that more than 500 vehicles were stolen in Brampton and Mississauga over the past 30 days – an average of 17 auto thefts per day.
