If you applied for a payout from the Canadian Packaged Bread Class Actions Settlement, that money may hit your bank account soon (if it hasn’t already).
The settlement is now in the distribution phase as of Monday, with payments being rolled out for approved claims.
“Please note that because of the large number of approved claims, payments are being issued on a rolling basis, and not all claimants will receive payment at the same time,” the settlement’s website stated in a recent update.
Payments are being issued by Interac e-Transfer or by cheque, depending on the payment method selected, and claimants are urged to check their inbox and junk or spam folder if they chose to be paid by e-Transfer.
Claimants are also advised to watch out for scams — legitimate Interac e-Transfer payments will only arrive by email from [email protected], and no communications or payments will be made via text message.
Claims first opened up last September in relation to the class action settlement, which alleged that multiple manufacturers and retailers fixed the price of packaged bread in Canada, resulting in overcharges for packaged bread sold from 2001 to 2021.
The deadline to file was Dec. 12, 2025.
The settlement provides $404 million in cash, minus court-approved expenses. Loblaw previously provided $96 million through an earlier card program.
As for how much money to expect, the payout depends on several factors including net settlement funds, how many claims are approved, and whether or not a person previously received a $25 Loblaw card.
Settlement funds for businesses in Canada that bought packaged bread for resale from 2001 to 2021 are being held in trust and expected to be distributed at a later date.
