Moment of silence for late mayor at Pelham Town Council tonight

The flags have been at half-mast at Pelham for the past week following the sad news that former Mayor Ralph Beamer had passed away last week.
Tonight (July 11), Beamer will be acknowledged by a moment of silence prior to the Pelham Town Council meeting.
The town described Beamer as a “dedicated community leader, third-generation fruit farmer, co-owner of Beamer’s Country Market (who) served as a Pelham councillor from 1992 to 1994 and then Mayor from 1995 to 2003.”
During his term with Pelham, Beamer represented the Town at Regional Council and served on several committees, including the Regional Finance Committee.
Pelham Mayor Marvin Junkin recalls when Beamer reached out when he first became a councillor.
“I didn’t know Mr. Beamer that well, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when he reached out to me after I was elected Ward 1 Councillor, suggesting we meet so that he could give me advice as to the dos and don’ts of being a councillor. I jumped at the chance, and his words did indeed serve me well. My condolences to his wife and family members.”

Beamer was an active community member and served many years on the Ontario Tender Fruit Marketing Board. He also served on the Ontario Crop Insurance Commission and was a member of the Fenwick and Thorold Lions.
Beamer is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two brothers.
