A Brampton family is lucky to be alive after a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of their home early Wednesday morning.

Officers from Peel Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Bureau are reaching out to the public in what’s being called an attempted arson investigation.

The lit Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of a residence near North Park Dr. and Nuffield St. just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22.

At the time of the incident, there were four adults and two children inside the residence. Fortunately, the device did not explode and no physical injuries were sustained. This is believed to be a targeted incident.

Molotov cocktails consist of a glass bottle filled with a flammable liquid. If the device had exploded, it could have destroyed the home and placed the lives of all occupants at risk along with neighbouring homes and their occupants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, extension 2133. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.
