The athletics department at Mohawk College in Hamilton unveiled its four-year strategic plan on Wednesday, an essential complete revamping of its existing programs and facilities.

Not only will the overall look change through improved facilities, but the department is also planning to expand and provide new recreational and fitness programming, increase alumni engagement, strengthen relationships with other departments around the college, create a game day experience that “packs the bleachers,” and creating new revenue streams.

“Mohawk is thrilled to release our new Athletics Strategic Plan,” said Katie Burrows, VP of Students, International and Alumni. “This plan will help us grow our national exposure through athletics, provide great programming to all Mohawk students, and continue to build on the momentum of our varsity sports.”

This plan outlines the department’s future direction with the goal of being recognized nationally.

“This plan will help us maximize the potential of our students and enable us to make good on our promise of excellence,” Burrows said. “Through grit, resilience, initiative and tenacity, Mohawk will achieve the aspirations put forward in this plan.”

The athletics department says its plan provides students with a wide variety of recreation, fitness, and intercollegiate programs to improve students’ experiences and overall education.

“Student well-being is the core to the Athletic Department’s new Strategic Plan,” said college dean Louisa Drost, who is also the chief health, accessibility, and wellness officer. “The plan highlights Growing Through Grit as a key element for our varsity athletes, recreation play and fitness use.”

“The new era of our athletic department is working to establish and maintain an inclusive culture so that all individuals feel a sense of belonging.”
