This weekend, Canadian Armed Forces veterans will be able to use public transit in Mississauga for free.

MiWay has announced, on Saturday (August 21), Canadian veterans and their companions will be able to use to transit service for free as a token of appreciation for their service.

Free transit service is an annual service MiWay provides for veterans on the day of the Warriors’ Day Parade—which pays tribute and celebrates the men and women who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces dating back to its inception in 1921.

This year, due to the pandemic, the parade itself has been cancelled, but MiWay is still offering veterans the option to use the transit service for free—MiWay is encouraging veterans to identify themselves by wearing their uniforms, showing a service medal, or presenting their Veterans Service Card.

“We want to thank our veterans for the sacrifices they have made for our country,” Geoff Marinoff, Director of Transit for MiWay, said in a news release.

“This pandemic doesn’t diminish what they have done for our country and we are pleased to offer them complimentary transit service on their Mississauga travels on Saturday, August 21.”
