Back by popular demand, a MiWay express bus will once again take riders to their destination along a busy Mississauga corridor on weekends, say transit officials who introduced a number of service changes this week.

Route 101 Dundas Express is now back on the road resuming its Saturday service, according to MiWay, which made numerous changes to its schedule effective Oct. 23.

“To provide additional service capacity along the Dundas corridor, the Route 101 Dundas Express will resume Saturday service and operate every 21 minutes throughout the day,” Mississauga public transit officials said in an online update on Monday. “This increase in service is due to consistently high customer demand on Route 1 Dundas on weekends.”

In addition to the Dundas Street corridor, MiWay is also bumping up service due to high customer demand on the following routes:

  • 4 Sherway Gardens will operate every 34 minutes on weekdays from 2 to 6 p.m.
  • 22 Finch will operate every 22 minutes on Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m.
  • 66 McLaughlin will operate every 21 minutes on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Sundays, it will operate every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • 107 Malton Express will operate every 13 minutes on weekdays from 2 to 7 p.m.

On the other side of the coin, MiWay is also reducing service on some bus routes due to low customer demand.

Transit officials say that money saved from such reductions “will be reinvested back into busier routes to address overcrowding and reliability issues for customers.”

The follow routes will see service reductions as of this week:

  • 4 Sherway Gardens will operate every 59 minutes on weekdays after 6 p.m.
  • 20 Rathburn will operate every 45 minutes on weekdays from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturdays, it will operate every 35 minutes before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m.
  • 23 Lakeshore will operate every 27 minutes on weekdays from 7 to 10 p.m.
  • 25 Traders Loop will only operate on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • 39 Britannia will operate every 32 minutes on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

MiWay officials say they’re also making more minor schedule adjustments to 14 routes “to improve service reliability as traffic and ridership patterns continue to evolve throughout the city.”

They add that further adjustments will be made as needed “to ensure that services remain responsive to customer needs.”

MiWay, which also began phasing out its blue buses this week as it moves to an all-orange fleet, is planning its next service changes/adjustments on Dec. 25.
