Faced with an unprecedented lack of retail staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Square One Shopping Centre is hosting a massive job fair tomorrow and Sunday in hopes of attracting hundreds of new workers.

The huge shopping centre, one of Canada’s top 10 most productive malls, is hosting the two-day hiring event to support numerous retailers who are looking to fill more than 200 wide-ranging full-time, part-time and seasonal positions.

Available positions include store managers, key holders, retail operations, sales associates, stock clerks, back of house workers and cashiers.

The job fair, which invites job seekers to bring multiple copies of their resumes, runs tomorrow (Sat. Oct. 16) from 1-7 p.m. and Sunday from noon-6 p.m. on Level 2, across from H&M.

Those who attend are also told to be prepared to be interviewed by hiring teams on the spot.

Retailers participating on Saturday are Chocollata Gourmet  Brigadeiros, Indigo, La Carnita, Lacoste, Mind Games, Pandora, Saje, Sephora, Tumi, Simons and Square One Guest Experience.

Chocollata Gourmet Brigadeiros, Dynamite, Garage, Indigo, LensCrafters, Simons and Square One Guest Experience are participating on Sunday.

Square One houses more than 320 merchants and in 2017 it became only the second shopping centre in Canada to achieve $1 billion in annual retail sales.

Square One isn’t alone in feeling the pinch of a reduced workforce. Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto hosted a similarly sweeping job fair yesterday and numerous other GTA malls and businesses are in the same boat due to the pandemic.
