Earlier this month, Mississauga residents learned that popular grocery chain Farm Boy would be opening a new location in Port Credit in 2024.

Now, it appears the store–which will be coming to Mississauga for the first time–will be located within Brightwater, a 72-acre community that’s taking shape along the city’s waterfront.

Port Credit West Village Partners (PCWVP), the group designing the new community, said Farm Boy will be the area’s new anchor tenant.

Brightwater, when completed at Mississauga and Lakeshore Rds., will feature 3,000 new homes, 300,000 sq. ft. of commercial, restaurant, retail and office space, and 18 acres of green space.

Included in the 3,000 homes will be 150 affordable housing units. A new elementary school may be part of the plan as well, City officials say.

Farm Boy will be located along Lakeshore Rd. W., near the Mississauga Rd. intersection.

PCWVP says the new store will span approximately 25,000 sq. ft. and will create approximately 120 jobs in the neighbourhood.

“For over 40 years, Farm Boy has always put great food and experience first, and we are delighted with how customers across the province have responded,” said Shawn Linton, president and general manager of Farm Boy, in a news release.

“We are looking forward to expanding our presence across the GTA with our first location in Mississauga at Brightwater.”

Brightwater broke ground in October 2021 and the most recent phase, Bridge House was launched last summer. More releases are planned for 2023.

Farm Boy is known for offering farm-fresh produce, butcher-quality meats, artisan cheese and a range of grab-and-go products. The stores also offer full-service hot food, salad and soup bars.
