Mississauga’s Bianca Andreescu has advanced to the quarter-finals at the Bad Homburg Open tennis tournament in Germany after defeating England’s Katie Swan earlier today (June 22).

Andreescu, ranked No. 64 in Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) play, got by Swan (No. 223) 6-4, 6-4 to move on to the final eight. She’ll face Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, the tournament’s top seed and WTA No. 13, in a quarter-final match on Thursday.

Andreescu, 22, defeated Italian Martina Trevisan, the tourney’s No. 7 seed and WTA No. 27, in impressive fashion on Tuesday, scoring a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

The tournament, which concludes on Saturday, is being held on outdoor grass courts.

Andreescu was eliminated in the second round at last week’s German Open tournament in Berlin.

The Mississauga tennis star, once ranked as high as No. 4 in the world after winning the US Open in 2019, continues to make her way back from a lengthy injury/mental health break on the WTA circuit.

She burst onto the world tennis scene with that surprise US Open win and told media last month at the Italian Open that the past few years have been tough for her, but she’s slowly “getting to my top form” again.
