Mississauga Woman Accused of Scamming People with Fake Travel Agency

A Mississauga woman is facing charges in connection with running an allegedly fictitious travel agency.
Peel police allege that between April 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018, 40-year-old Libia Guerra Paez operated a fictitious travel agency that advertised various vacation packages.
Police say victims lost $108,268.01 in total.
According to police, the accused accepted fees from multiple victims without actually providing any vacation services.
Police say they have identified 22 different victims from Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto.
The funds for various vacations were sent via credit card payments and bank e-transfers associated with the accused. After the payment was received, the victims would receive falsified vacation packages that were of no value. Soon after, the victims would attempt to contact the accused regarding the validity of their tickets and she would fail to respond.

On March 14, 2019 at 10:04 a.m., the accused attended a police station in Mississauga. She was subsequently arrested and charged for defrauding the public.
She was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking requiring her to abide by several conditions, including abstaining from selling travel. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2019.
