When the Cake Boss opens up his Mississauga bakery, the storefront is going to look a lot like his original operation in Hoboken, New Jersey, the one made famous on television.

And just as it is back in Jersey, the store will be called Carlo’s Bakery (or Bake Shop) and feature cakes, cannoli, éclairs and whatever you might find in a typical Italian bakery but with an upscale presentation and a ready-made audience thanks to 10 years of television exposure.

To get all of the names straight, Carlo’s Bakery opened its original shop back in 1910 and was taken over by the Valastro family in 1964. Buddy Valastro currently runs the empire which it indeed has become once the bakery hit the airwaves in 2009. The show, called the Cake Boss, features Buddy and his team creating elaborate custom-ordered cakes.

The Mississauga store will be located at 167 Lakeshore Rd. W. in Port Credit, on the southside of the street just east of Mississauga Rd.

Plans for the redesign of the current storefront recently came before a City of Mississauga committee because the property falls under the Old Port Credit Village Heritage Conservation District, thereby needing approval for any structural changes.

In the report submitted to the committee, the operators of Carlo’s Bakery say they want to transfer the look and style of the original Hoboken store to Mississauga.

“The existing structural columns will be enhanced to mimic a roman doric column. An enlarged sign canopy will be constructed to allow for signage and design features. The original windows will be kept while a new door is being proposed,” the report states.

While there is no time-frame for the opening of Carlo’s Bakery in Mississauga, some renovation work has already begun with the hope the store will welcome customers by the end of the year.
