The City of Mississauga will be kicking off the holiday season this upcoming weekend with the annual lighting of the giant Christmas tree and the official opening of its largest outdoor ice skating rink.
These festivities kick off the holiday and winter season in Mississauga each year and take place at Celebration Square on the last Saturday of November.
This year, the celebration will take place on Nov. 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where attendees can expect photo ops with Santa and the elves, glowing public art installations, food trucks, giant light-up games and live music.
Skate rentals will also be available on-site.
Additionally, guests will be able to take a walk through Passage, a large interactive art installation made up of 20 circles of light that form a tunnel.
At 5:00 p.m., the event will begin with ice skating, food trucks, photos with Santa, a DJ and games.
Live music from the JukeBells, Celebration Square’s own “live jukebox” that takes requests from guests will take place at 6:15 p.m. before the ceremony and tree lighting with Mayor Bonnie Crombie and council at 7:00 p.m.
There will be live music from Big Smoke Brass following the ceremony at 7:20 p.m.
The event is free and suitable for all ages.
