Tianshu Chu might be paying his own way through school after winning the $100,000 top prize on his Instant Crossword Tripler ticket.

Chu, a 20-year-old post-secondary school student from Mississauga, said his parents had a message for him–a light-hearted one, he hopes–immediately after he told them he had won.

“They said, ‘Now you can pay for your own tuition’,” Chu said, laughing, while collecting his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Chu, a regular lottery player who says he loves to play $3 and $5 Instant Crossword tickets, said he was shocked after looking at all his letters one by one.

“I double checked with my phone and then told my parents right away,” he said. “It’s just super exciting. I feel on top of the world.”

Chu said he plans to invest, pay for his tuition and attend a Toronto Raptors basketball game at Scotiabank Arena in the fall.

“And I’ll purchase my favourite jersey,” he added, smiling.

The winning ticket was purchased at Woodchester Convenience, on Dundas St. in Mississauga.
