Tianshu Chu’s love of crossword puzzles has made him $200,000 richer in the last year.

The 21-year-old Mississauga post-secondary student recently won the top prize of $100,000 while playing an OLG Instant Crossword Tripler ticket.

Chu said he also won $100,000 playing the same lottery game last year–and he only just started buying the instant win tickets relatively recently.

“I’ve been playing for a year-and-a-half. Crossword is my favourite, of course; I’ve won on it twice,” Chu shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

“I knew I won $100,000 right away when I was scratching the ticket. My heart was pumping; I felt on top of the world,” he continued. “I thought, ‘I could pay my university tuition.’ I couldn’t believe I won a second time.”

Chu says he called his parents to share the news and they didn’t believe it.

“I sent them a photo to prove it. They are happy,” he said. “I will use this win to pay off my tuition, watch the (Toronto) Raptors playoffs, purchase a car and take a trip around Canada to explore the country.”

Well, he’ll have to wait at least a year to pursue one of those plans. The Raptors were eliminated from NBA playoff contention last week.

The winning ticket was purchased at R & R Newstand, on Dundas St. in Mississauga.
