Mississauga soccer club collects Christmas toys for children in need

A west Mississauga soccer community has teamed up with cops and firefighters to help give some children in need a happier Christmas this year. 

Erin Mills Soccer Club is hosting the final day of its Toys for Tots Toy Drive tomorrow (Sat. Dec. 11) at its Unity Dr. clubhouse.  

In partnership with Peel Regional Police and Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, the soccer club will accept donations of new, unwrapped toys and cash donations between 8 a.m. and noon. The clubhouse is located at 3135 Unity Dr., Units 3 and 4.  

The club has been accepting donations for the past two weeks. All toys and cash collected will go to underprivileged children in Mississauga, soccer club officials say. 

Peel police will bring some of their cop cruisers along to load up all toys collected, and Mississauga firefighters will be on hand to show off a fire truck and equipment to members of the soccer club.

Not to be forgotten, Santa Claus will stop by to pose for phots will everyone who donates. 

It’s the first time the Erin Mills Soccer Club has partnered with the popular Toys for Tots charity, which has been helping Mississauga children for decades. The club, a non-profit soccer organization that offers indoor and outdoor recreational and competitive programs, has been around since 1972. 

“This is the first time we are doing a Toys for Tots event and we’re so excited,” said soccer club officials. 

Money donations can also be made online via the club’s website. 

To encourage donations, the club is awarding a couple of prizes. The soccer team that donates the most toys gets a one-hour facility booking and pizza lunch while each person who donated a toy or money will be entered into a raffle for a $100 Tim Hortons gift card and a merchandise package.
