Mississauga residents facing a cash crunch due to the COVID-19 pandemic can apply to have their final 2021 property tax payment deferred until Dec. 15.

City of Mississauga officials say residents facing prolonged suspension of pay, loss of employment, extreme business revenue loss, business closure or insolvency/bankruptcy can apply for the delayed tax payments.

To apply, your property cannot have tax arrears prior to March 2020, officials say. And your taxes must be paid directly to the City and not through a mortgage company.

Property tax payments can be made at any time during the year. City officials say penalties and interest will not be applied to final 2021 tax installments as long as full payment is received by Dec. 15.

Deadline to apply for property tax deferral is Aug. 31.

Apply online at the City of Mississauga, or ask for a paper copy  by calling the City’s tax office.
