For Jane Riga, the birthdates of her family members became that much more significant some six weeks ago.

Playing numbers that are a combination of family birthdates, the 61-year-old Mississauga woman won $572,088.10 in the July 23 Lottario draw.

A regular lottery player, Riga said she was in shock when she realized she had the winning numbers on her ticket.

“I listened to the winning numbers on the win line and saw that they matched. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock,” she shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings.

Riga said the first person she told of the win was her husband, who wasn’t sure if he heard her correctly. At first, he thought she said $50,000.

“I said, no. Half a million. He was shocked, too,” said Riga, who plans to use the windfall to secure her retirement. “It puts me at ease. I’m going to purchase a new car and save.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Neighbours Convenience, on Yonge St. in Elmvale.
