An eyesore of overgrown weeks caught the attention of a Mississauga resident this week.

The weeds had grown over portions of the sidewalk and road just south of the Port Credit GO station on Elizabeth St., Jeffrey Benoy, who has lived in the area for nearly a year, tells insauga.

Benoy took a few photos of the weeds and garbage and posted them in the Facebook Port Credit Friends Facebook group.

“This is the first impression of Port Credit after arriving on the GO Train and walking south in Elizabeth St.,” Benoy wrote in the post.

The post generated dozens of comments with several people suggesting he pick up the garbage or call 311. But Benoy says he doesn’t mind picking up the garbage — and often does.

“My primary concern is the overgrown weeds and grass damaging the sidewalk and road area,” he says.

Benoy tagged Ward 1 Coun. Stephen Dasko who responded quickly to the post saying he picked up the garbage and city crews are coming to clean up the weeds.

In an email, a City of Mississauga spokesperson said the city doesn’t maintain weeds or turf in front of businesses, private properties and residential areas.

But they do maintain the weeds and grass growing through hard surfaces such as sidewalks, trails and playgrounds in areas beside city maintained grass.
