Mississauga can give itself a pat on the collective back after being named one of the most intelligent cities on Earth.

Each year, the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) recognizes seven cities that are models of economic, social and cultural development in the digital age. Mississauga was one of three Canadian cities to earn recognition, along with Winnipeg and Langley Twp., B.C.

The ICF creates its list by using a rigorous analytic method where a team of academics review data and score cities based on six factors: work, sustain, include, engage, innovate and connect.

In an explainer video, the ICF lauded Mississauga for being a business and technology hub which has parlayed its high degree of connectivity into improving city services. It pointed out that the city has a cloud-based system to make connecting with government easier and a Digital Main Street program that helps small businesses go online. The city has also launched programs to provide training for high school and post-secondary students in the skills that are most in demand smone local employers.

The other four cities recognized by the ICF were Moscow; Binh Duong Smart City, Vietnam; Curitiba, Brazil; Moscow; and Townsville, Australia.
