Ivan Krndelj and Bernice Rocha sure know how to liven up a family barbecue.

In between servings of steaks and burgers, the co-workers–Krndelj is from Mississauga and Rocha lives in Oakville–delivered the news that they shared a $100,000 Encore win in the June 17 Lotto Max draw.

The pair, who work together in construction and have been playing the lottery each week for four years, held a ticket that matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order.

“I checked the ticket at the store and thought we won $100,” Krndelj said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their winnings.

To his surprise, and delight, the win was worth considerably more.

“I was at work when he called me and told me about the win,” Rocha added. “I said ‘oh my gosh!’”

The lucky winners then told their families during a barbecue. “Everyone was shocked,” Krndelj said.

Krndelj and Rocha plan to save their winnings and put some towards their children’s education.

“It’s crazy,” Rocha concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada, on Winston Churchill Blvd. in Mississauga.
