Mississauga, Niagara Falls men charged after police seize $39,000 in illegal drugs and a handgun

A Mississauga man and Niagara Falls resident were both charged for drug trafficking and weapons after police raided two separate Niagara Falls addresses today (March 17).

During a March investigation, Niagara Police got two search warrants and raided a house on River Rd. near Eastwood Cres., as well as a Lundy’s Lane hotel room.

The police seized a loaded handgun, 327 grams of suspected fentanyl and 31.6 grams of suspected cocaine.  The estimated street value of the drugs was $39,000 while they also found $748.40 in suspected crime cash.

A 23-year-old Mississauga man bore the brunt of the charges. Matthew Stewart has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence, possession of crime cash under $5,000, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, failing to comply with a release order, as well as a probation order and possession of a firearm while under probation.

Brett Michael Jeremy McLaren, 31, of Niagara Falls is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The pair remain in police custody, waiting for a bail hearing later today (March 17) via video link to the courthouse in St. Catharines.
