A Mississauga man is facing multiple fraud charges in connection with what police describe as a series of alleged home contractor scams across the GTA that totaled more than $1 million.

Peel Regional Police fraud investigators say they received reports from several alleged victims involving the same man who was supposed to have completed work for them between 2020 and earlier this year in various GTA cities.

Police arrested a man on Monday.

According to investigators, a man “promised contractor home services and was paid deposits and used sub-contractors. Several victims have come forward and stated that services had never even begun.”

The frauds are believed to have bilked people out of more than $1 million in total, police say.

Milentje Djordjevic, 58, of Mississauga, is charged with defraud the public and four counts of fraud over $5,000.

He’ll appear in Brampton court at a later date.

Police urge members of the public to consider not prepaying for products or services when dealing with unknown or unproven individuals.

“Check references and establish a contract and payment schedule for services rendered,” police say.

Investigators believe there may be more victims.
