Mississauga man arrested, warrant issued for Brampton man in connection with Wasaga Beach kidnapping

A Mississauga man has been arrested and a Brampton man is wanted by police in connection with the kidnapping of Wasaga Beach woman.

York Regional Police say the case goes back to December 21, 2021 when officers answered a call in Richmond Hill that a woman had been attacked in an underground parking garage. The attackers were scared off by a bystander and fled the scene. The woman suffered minor injuries.

Subsequently, the same woman, Elnaz Hajtamiri, 37, was abducted from her Wasaga Beach home.

Police believe the two men suspected in the earlier case may be involved or have information about Hajtamiri’s disappearance.

Hajtamiri was last seen January 12 when she was taken from her home by three men posing as police officers. They fled in a vehicle described as a white, 2016-2022 model Lexus RX SUV.

Yesterday, investigators carried out a warrant and arrested one of the suspects.

Riyasat Singh, 23, of Mississauga is charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Investigators have now issued a Canada-wide warrant for Harshdeep Binner, 23, of Brampton He is wanted for attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.
