Mississauga man arrested following seizure of $25 million in illegal drugs

A Mississauga man is facing charges after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) allegedly seized approximately 200 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine at the Canada/USA border.
The CBSA made the seizure in conjunction with the Windsor detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The CBSA says the seizure constitutes the largest methamphetamine seizure, on record, for the organization within the past seven years.
The CBSA estimates the value of the suspected methamphetamine at over $25.5 million.
The CBSA says that on Dec. 24, 2019, a commercial truck entered Canada through the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor and was referred for a secondary examination. During the examination, border services officers allegedly discovered nine containers filled with suspected methamphetamine.
The CBSA arrested the driver and seized the suspected narcotics. The RCMP took custody of the accused as well as the evidence.

The RCMP charged Mohamed Ahmed Abdirahman, 36, with the importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
“This seizure demonstrates that border services officers are committed to protecting our borders and ensuring the security of Canadians,” – Joe McMahon, District Director, Ambassador Bridge District Operations, Canada Border Services Agency, said in a statement.
“We work in partnership with the RCMP to prevent illegal activity at the border and to keep our communities safe from illicit drugs.”
The accused will appear in court on Feb. 3, 2020.
The investigation is ongoing.
