A man from Mississauga and a teenage boy have both been charged after an alleged attempt to defraud an Oshawa company of $500,000 worth of equipment.

According to police, two men went to a business on Bloor St. on Jan. 31 and bought $500,000 of equipment with a bank draft. They picked up some of the equipment and left that day.

However, the business soon realized the bank drafts were fraudulent and called the police when the pair arrived to pick up the remaining equipment on Feb. 1.

Officers got to the business shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Feb 1 and arrested the pair.

Marouf Yazbak, 20, and a teen, 17, both from Mississauga, are charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and uttering a forged document.

Both have been released from custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation can call Durham police D/Cst. Finley at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5358 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
