Albert Bridges reacted as most people would when he realized he had just won almost $2.2 million in the lottery.

The retired painter and decorator from Mississauga says he “couldn’t believe it” when he saw that his Lottario ticket in the May 21 draw was a big winner–$2,197,927 to be exact.

“I almost fell off my chair,” said Bridges at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto, where he picked up his winnings. “I was shocked. My wife didn’t believe it either. She keeps asking if it’s true.”

Bridges, who’s played the lottery for 20 years, said he mostly plays Lottario and that this is his first big win. He checked the winning numbers on OLG.ca and realized all his numbers matched.

The Mississauga man says he plans to put his winnings toward investments and a nice holiday for himself and his wife.

And at least one other thing.

“We will probably treat ourselves to some new furniture, but we won’t go too crazy,” he added. “It feels like a dream. It’s still unbelievable.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Number 1 Convenience, on Hurontario St. in Mississauga.
