Katherine and Albert Ng enjoy a good joke as much as anyone, but they’re sure glad their sense of humour wasn’t put to the test a few weeks ago.

The retired Mississauga couple, who’ve played the lottery regularly for more than 40 years, finally struck the jackpot when their July 20 Lotto 6/49 ticket turned out to be a Guaranteed $1 million prize winner.

One of Albert’s first reactions after his wife had checked the winning numbers on OLG.ca was that it wasn’t real.

“I kept wondering if someone had broke into our computer to play a joke on us,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. It felt unreal.”

Added Katherine: “When I noticed the guaranteed million numbers matched, I went to get Albert right away.”

She said she had to double check the ticket and winning numbers to make sure it was real.

“I never thought we’d win something like this.”

The pair plan to invest and travel with their winnings.

“We’d like to see more of the world and visit family who live overseas,” said Albert.

The winning ticket was purchased at Esso, on Mississauga Rd. in Mississauga.
