It took nearly six months, but Nela Kalinkina’s new year’s wish came true when she won $166,540 in the June 24 Lotto Max draw.

The 56-year-old Mississauga woman plans to use a chunk of the second-prize money to pay for a 30th wedding anniversary trip for her and her husband.

“I will also invest some in my passion for creating art and photography,” Kalinkina said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her cheque.

An occasional lottery player for more than 20 years, the Mississauga mother says she especially enjoys playing Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49.

She was ecstatic when she checked her lucky ticket. She had wished this past new year’s for a Lotto Max win.

“I checked my ticket using the OLG App and I thought it was a pop-up ad at first,” said Kalinkina. “My mom showed me the winning numbers on the app and compared them to mine. That’s when I knew how much I won. This makes me smile. It’s amazing and completely unbelievable.

“I never dreamed this could happen. I hope others don’t lose hope and believe that wonderful things can happen,” she added.

The winning ticket was purchased at Flying J, on Britannia Rd. in Mississauga.
