A 49-year-old self-employed man has plans to upgrade his home after a big lottery win.

Manraj Kang said he checked his ticket at the grocery store and discovered a $500,000 LOTTO MAX win.

“Shocked would be an understatement!” Kang said recently while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque.

Kang said he shared his big news with his mom right away.

“She is happy for me,” he said. “She was the first person I told because I purchased this ticket when I purchased her birthday cake.”

Kang plans to put his win toward home renovations but was overwhelmed by the win.

“It all still feels a bit unreal,” he concluded.

LOTTO MAX players have won more than $7 billion since 2009. LOTTO MAX is a $5 per play and draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
