Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga

Children in need of hospitalization at Mississauga Hospital are currently being sent to Credit Valley Hospital.

The paediatric unit at Mississauga Hospital has been temporarily consolidated with Credit Valley Hospital and all care for inpatient paediatric patients is now being delivered at Credit Valley, spokesperson with Trillium Health Partners, Keeley Rogers said in an email to insauga.com today (Nov. 11).

The temporary change is due to an increasing number of children who are sick and require hospitalization along with “ongoing province-wide staffing challenges,” Rogers said.

The emergency department at Mississauga Hospital remains open to paediatric patients but if children need to be admitted to hospital, they will be transferred to Credit Valley Hospital, she said.

Rogers added that the quality of care remains the same.

“By working together on one site, our clinical teams have been able to keep the same number of beds open to support children and families in need,” she said.

It is not clear how long the change will be in effect.

“As part of our surge plans, we will continue to reassess our space to ensure we are maximizing all available bed spaces within our hospitals, actively recruit new staff, and introduce additional clinics and resources to support our children in our community,” she said.

This comes as medical professionals brace record numbers at hospitals due to a “triple threat” this winter with COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and rising influenza cases.
