The lights of Applehood Heights stadium shine above Pinesmoke Cres.

The stadium lights from a high school have turned into a headache for a number of neighbouring homeowners.

A delegation representing the Applewood Hills & Heights Residents’ Association that will appear before a City of Mississauga committee this week, say they are fed up with the glow that has created “a light nuisance, pollution, glare, trespass and noise.”

The lights in question are four, 80-ft. standards that were erected on the football field of Applewood Heights Secondary School in 2018.

Residents say whenever the lights are on they do not have enjoyment of their properties as they tower over their community and shine into their homes and backyards.

The residents say they were opposed to the lights when they were first proposed but have since been ignored by the Peel District School Board and the City of Mississauga. They say the lights are against City bylaws but believe the dispute is more jurisdictional because they are on school board property.

The group says the lights have been monitored on a regular basis and hop that with the City’s help, a solution can be worked out with the school board.

Delegates will appear for City councillors to discuss the issue on Wednesday (June 1).
