A Mississauga woman who won more than $56,000 playing Lotto Max says she has her children and grandchildren to thank for her good fortune.

Playing her usual numbers, Maria Emilia Costa won a second prize of $56,298 in the Jan. 14 Lotto Max draw.

“I always play numbers comprised of birthdays of my children and grandchildren,” said Costa as she collected her winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

The retiree and grandmother of four says she went to the store to check her tickets when she realized she won big.

“I was shaking,” Costa said of her immediate reaction. “The store clerk helped me through the process.”

Costa added that the win feels great.

“I can help out my children and give some to charity,” she smiled. “I want to help others with this win. I don’t need much.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Loblaws, on McLaughlin Rd. in Mississauga.
