A Mississauga event explores climate change and climate action in a fun way this weekend.

The launch of Mississauga’s outdoor travelling exhibition titled We are Resilient happens this Friday, Sept. 16.

The exhibition is inspired by the City of Mississauga’s Climate Change Action Plan and is a joint project with the City of Mississauga’s Environment Section and Museums of Mississauga. It includes photographs and stories created by Mississauga residents, perspectives from international scientific leaders and ideas to tackle climate action.

An increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall, ice storms, and some of the hottest summers on record as climate change is costing Mississauga residents, according to the Action Plan.

We are Resilient launches with a free, family-friendly event including local environmental organizations and exhibitors, vendors selling sustainable products, giveaways, an electric vehicle test drive and food.

Rhythm Works, the official drummers for the Toronto Raptors from 2015-19, will bring an interactive drumming performance from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Sept. 16 launch also includes a multi-faceted performance piece from artist team SHEEEP – the Mobilizer 5.0. This interactive installation is used to discuss climate change and the importance of neighbourhood green spaces.

We are Resilient will be in Community Common Park, 355 Princess Royal Dr. from Sept. 16 to Nov. 13. It then goes to Mississauga City Hall, 300 City Centre Dr. from Nov. 16 to Jan. 6.

This touring exhibition will be popping up at locations all over the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel.

The opening event is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Community Common Park. For more information contact [email protected]
